Built in 1856, Cobdown House has a long association with business and commerce. The builder, Robert Tassell, was twice mayor of Maidstone, a prominent and respected landowner, businessman and lawyer. An interesting character, his extraordinary travels through the ‘holy lands’ in 1839 are preserved in the Oxford University archives.
The House has seen much, going through many changes over the years. From a comfortable private residence, to offices, a hostel in 1930s, an education college, now a centre for business.
Surrounded by beautiful grounds, Cobdown House offers an environment where productivity and wellbeing thrive.
The famous Finnish Olympic sauna, the only surviving example of its kind, dating back to the 1948 London Olympics, adds to the history as do the giant redwood trees (Wellingtonias named in honour of the Duke of Wellington), planted soon after William Lobb brought back the first seeds to the UK.
The main focus of the Cobdown Estate, the beautiful Victorian House and grounds, has gone through extensive renovation after decades of neglect. Preserving its history while introducing modern amenities and infrastructure; a perfect place for the modern business. It’s where comfort, elegance and technology come together.
