10 months in the making — and quite a transformation.
As part of the wider renovation of Cobdown House, around 10 months ago I started a project to turn what was essentially an old basement/storage area into a dedicated, self-contained Data, Server & Communications Room.

But what sits behind those new walls and cabinets is probably the more important transformation.
We’ve installed a new 10Gb internet connection, supported by a 10Gb network backbone throughout the site, giving Cobdown House the infrastructure to support both Advo One, who are already based here, and the businesses that will call Cobdown House home in the future.
The aim from the outset wasn’t simply to provide an internet connection. We wanted to create the foundations for a wide, flexible and scalable network offering that can adapt to the requirements of future tenants.
This weekend marked another major milestone in the project.
As part of a longer-term cost-saving and infrastructure strategy, I migrated the Advo One production environment from our local data centre and re-housed it at Cobdown House.
That means the environment we’ve spent the last 10 months designing and building is no longer just ready for production — it’s running it.
Bringing the production environment in-house allows us to reduce ongoing data-centre costs while taking advantage of the considerably improved network performance and 10Gb infrastructure we’ve now put in place.
For a Victorian building undergoing a major refurbishment, there is something particularly satisfying about seeing modern technology and infrastructure becoming part of its next chapter.
A lot of work has gone into getting from the first two photos to the last two — and this weekend felt like the point where all that work really came together.
From basement storage room to the digital heart of Cobdown House.
